JGN2 Research Project

Theme:Common Usage of the Information of Geospace Environment Using High Speed Network

The past project→ "Research on Advanced Network Use of the Geospace Environment Information" by Using Gigabit Network(2000〜2003)

Research Purpose

Mutual exchange of the large scale simulation data of the geospace (solar-earth) environment is carried out in almost real time, and sharing is attained. And researches on highly advanced use of high-speed networks, such as simulation data analysis, three-dimensional visualization, a corporal vision, animation movie production, and 4-dimensional animation movie production, are done from both domestic and foreign Collaborative-Research organization and Japan and the U.S.

Collaborative-Research Organization

  1.Nagoya University

  2.Kyoto University

  3.Ehime University

  4.Kyushu University

5.NICT-National Institute of Information and Communications Technology

  6.Yamanashi Prefectural Science Center

Details of Research

While transmitting the large scale simulation data of the geospace environment among Collaborative-Research organizations (Five organizations of Solar-Terrestrial Environment Laboratory, Nagoya University/Graduate School of Science, Kyoto-University/Center for Information Technology, Ehime University/Space Environment Research Center, Kyushu University/National Institute of Information and Communications Technology), the method of sharing simulation data and conducting data analysis from both domestic Collaborative-Research organizations in Japan and the U.S. is established. The three-dimensional visualization which minds a high-speed network especially, a corporal vision, animation movie production, The Collaborative Research by production of the three-dimensional visualization contents using VRML (Virtual Reality Modeling Language)etc. of the international standard, such as 4-dimensional animation movie (time-axis is added to three-dimensional visualization) production, a mutual inspection, and realization of data-sharing is carried out. Moreover, mutual exchange of a lot of satellite observational data is carried out, the integrated studies of data is conducted, the analysis data by which added value attachment is carried out newly is sent, and international sharing of the geospace environment information is measured. Moreover, real-time research information exchange about the space weather and the space environment is realized among each organization using TV conference.

FAST satellite data is transmitted to Solar-Terrestrial Environment Laboratory, Nagoya University from Space Science Laboratory, University of California, Berkeley, and, specifically, data analysis of magnetosphere particle environment is conducted. Moreover, it is planning improving the environment where all the planetary exploration data analysis system PDS (Planetary Data System) currently built by NASA JPL can always be used through a high-speed network.
