Selected H-alpha Movies of Solar Prominence Eruptions and Flares Observed with the Flare Monitoring Telescope at Hida Observatory

OB0045

1. Contents

Selected H-alpha movies of solar explosive phenomena, such as flares, surges and prominence eruptions are demonstrated in this CD-R, to provide dynamical aspects of our star, and to excite further cooperative researches for them.

They were produced from Ha solar images observed with the Flare Monitoring Telescope (FMT) at Hida Observatory, Kyoto University. A detailed description of the FMT system is found in the paper of H.Kurokawa, K.Ishiura, G.Kimura, Y.Nakai, R.Kitai, Y.Funakoshi, and T.Shinkawa "Observations of Solar H alpha Filament Disappearances with a New Solar Flare-Monitoring-Telescope at Hida Observatory" J.Geomag.Geoelectr., 47, 1043-1052, 1995

Each disk events such as Flare, Surge, and Filament Eruption, which occurred on the solar disk, is demonstrated in three different wavelengths, those are H-alpha line center, H-alpha ?0.8 angstrom, and H-alpha +0.8 angstrom. Prominence Eruptions on the solar limb, with occulting cone are observed in H-alpha line center with a filter of 3 angstrom band-width.

2. How to access the movies?

Opening the file " top_page.html " with your browser, like Netscape Navigator or Internet Explorer, you will see the index page of outstanding H-alpha movie after the front page that explains the outline of the FMT.

You can first select a type of solar active phenomena classified in the second page.

You can also access each movie directly by choosing the date of the event on the left side panel. On the index page of each active phenomenon, you can see the data of the event e.g. heliographic latitude and longitude, and observed time.
