1. Background and Problems
3D global MHD simulation of the interaction between the solar wind and
earth's magnetosphere could be executed on a variety of the vector
supercomputers using a fully vectorized MHD code.
CRAY Y-MP, Fujitsu VP-2600, Hitachi S820, and NEC SX-3
This flexibility allowed us to work together with many scientists
executing computer simulations.
Vector parallel and massively parallel supercomputers have come
into the simulation community, we have lost our common language.
For example, the vector parallel supercomputer, Fujitsu VPP500 and
VPP5000 could achieve a high performance by VPP Fortran, however
other supercomputers such as Hitachi SR8000 and NEC SX-5 cannot
Therefore, we expect a common language in the supercomputer world.
