Space Debris Data

Name: Space Debris Data
Abbreviation: Space Debris Data

Institution: Kimura's Lab., Department of Electrical Engineering, E, Faculty of Engineering, Kyoto University Contents: The data base consists of the following two observational modes: (1) Standard Ionospheric Observation Mode A standardized ionospheric observation has been carried out for 72 hours each month since 1987. Echoes from space debris which contaminate the ionospheric incoherent scattering are identified individually, and recorded separately to constitute a statistical data base of the occurrence frequency of the space debris. About 4,000 cases have been cataloged so far. The amount of data is 75 bytes per case, and the present total amount is about 700 kbytes. All of the data is kept on a hard disk drive of a Unix workstation. (2) Space Debris Observation Mode While the standard mode provides the instantaneous magnitude of the echo, this mode is designed to provide a rough estimate of the orbital elements and the time variation of the scattering cross section for each object by using 8 antenna beams arranged around the zenith. About 150 hours of observations have been carried out since August, 1989, with about 180 cases being cataloged. The amount of data is 824 byte per case, and the present total amount is 15 kbytes. All of the data is kept on a hard disk drive of a Unix workstation, and can be provided via an electric mail.
